Idris Elba reveals why he’ll never be the new James Bond: “I wasn’t in the race in the first place”
The actor’s name was one of the most frequently mentioned, but he was ruled out almost from the start.

Ever since Daniel Craig hung up his tuxedo, Idris Elba’s name has been mentioned as a possible successor to play Agent 007. As time has gone on, this possibility has faded until his name has disappeared entirely. However, the actor has made it clear that he was never among the candidates to be the new James Bond.
Elba has revealed that the reason he’s never been in the running at Amazon MGM Studios is his age: he’s too old to start playing the character: “They’re going younger. And I wish them all the luck of the world. I can’t wait — it’s going to be amazing,” she said in an interview with People. “I’m honestly not in the race ever. I wasn’t in the race in the first place,” she said.

Pierce Brosnan’s Idea for Returning as James Bond
Agent 007 has been around for a while in the movies, but the franchise is often rebooted with younger actors. Pierce Brosnan, who played the character in films such as ‘GoldenEye’, ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, and ‘The World Is Not Enough’, has expressed his desire to return, though he doesn’t think the studio is willing to make his idea a reality. Jokingly, Brosnan imagined a retired, elderly version of the character:
“I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?”
