We have always considered Bowser the most formidable enemy Mario has faced on countless occasions. Whether in games like Super Mario 64 or the recently released movie, the Koopa King has been giving the team of Plumber, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and company headaches for decades. But the voice actor in the movie (Jack Black) thinks there is a more powerful villain out there, and he knows exactly who should fill his shoes.

Wario! According to Jack Black, his presence in a hypothetical sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie would result in Mario and Bowser being forced to team up to defeat the grumpy yellow and purple jumpsuit character, Jack considering him “a more powerful, more evil villain.” During an interview with Gamespot, Black did not hesitate for a moment to call the name of the actor who would play him: “Pedro Pascal [The Mandalorian, The Last of Us] is Wario,” he says firmly.

Wario, the great forgotten one?

Aside from appearances in titles such as WarioWare: Get it Together!, the truth is that the main saga has not brought joy to its fans for many years. Wario Land is a popular franchise, and the latest installment, Wario Land: Shake It! was released exclusively for Nintendo Wii in 2008 (That’s 15 years without a proper 2D Wario game). Prior to that, we saw up to half a dozen games starring the grumpy character in a golden age where it was a benchmark for 2D platformers.

We don’t know if we’ll see Wario again, but the excitement of those waiting for a new Super Mario Bros. game has skyrocketed as Shigeru Miyamoto has hinted that we could be in for a surprise in the next Nintendo Direct. And when the genius himself is talking, you have to take things seriously…
