We have a new Man of Steel on the big screen. David Corenswet has been cast to bring Superman/Clark Kent to life in the new DC Cinematic Universe helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

Joining Corenswet is Rachel Brosnahan, who will bring to life Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, both of whom appeared in the first film of this reboot, Superman Legacy.

Both had emerged as the final few after months of auditions and screen tests, where Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney were vying to play the last son of Krypton, while Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were vying to play the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for The Daily Planet. Corenswet is best known for his role in Netflix’s The Politician, while Brosnahan wowed us with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

A New Reboot for DC in the Movies

Earlier this year, James Gunn revealed all the details of his vision for bringing the DC Comics universe back to the big screen. With a mix of well-known characters and other more obscure ones, Gunn intends to add a twist to what Zack Snyder started 10 years ago with Man of Steel. Among these projects, we have Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, as well as the arrival of the Green Lanterns, Supergirl, and Booster Gold, as well as groups less known to the general public such as The Authority or Creature Commandos.

The plot summary for Superman: Legacy reads:

“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s (Corenswet) journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

There’s still a long way to go before we see both of them in theaters with these new characters, as filming will begin on January 2024, and Superman Legacy will be released on July 11, 2025.
