Kelly Macdonald (‘Trainspotting’) joins cast of ‘Lanterns’ in pivotal role

The Scottish actress returns to an HBO production after ‘Boardwalk Empire’.

The ‘Lanterns’ series continues to grow and more and more details about it are becoming known. A few weeks ago it was confirmed that Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler are the chosen ones to play Hal Jordan and John Stewart as Green Lantern, and now a new member has joined the cast. According to Deadline, Scotland’s Kelly Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, a decent woman deeply devoted to her family and her town.

The actress made one of her first film appearances in ‘Trainspotting’, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor, which is already a cult classic. She also had a major role in the Coen Brothers’ Oscar-winning film ‘No Country for Old Men’, playing Llewelyn’s (Josh Brolin) girlfriend. More recently, Kelly Macdonald was the highlight of ‘The Radleys’, a black comedy about vampires that did not quite work in the end. With her role in ‘Lanterns’, the actress will be returning to work in an HBO production, as she was part of the cast of ‘Boardwalk Empire’.

What do we know so far about the ‘Lanterns’ series?

The main news about the HBO project is that filming will begin in 2025 and 2026, so the premiere is not expected before 2028. Although it is still a long way off, the most important details are already being revealed, such as the people behind the series and the plot of the series, as well as the main characters.

Ever since James Gunn took over the reins of the DC Extended Universe, the American has wanted to give the production studio a new look. Even though ‘The Batman’ is not technically part of the universe, it was a big step in laying the groundwork for what he wanted to do. Deadline announced back in June that Chris Mundy would be the showrunner of the series, as well as the lead writer alongside Damien Lindelof, one of the creators of ‘Lost’, and Tom King, one of the studio’s most trusted people. Lanterns’ will have a total of 8 episodes, following in the footsteps of ‘House of the Dragon’. The series will follow Kerry, Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a murder in the heartland of the United States.
