Kevin Feige explains why Marvel kept Sadie Sink’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ role secret

One of the best-kept secrets of the past few months was Sadie Sink’s role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. And yes, even though everyone had a theory—and surely whispered to themselves, “I knew it,” when they saw the movie—it was something that wasn’t leaked ahead of time. In fact, not even the actress herself knew about it until she started filming. In light of this, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has spoken about why they worked so hard to keep this a secret.

Spider-Man’s latest big-screen adventure, starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger, kept fans guessing for months if Sadie Sink would play Jean Grey, marking another step toward the introduction of mutants in the MCU (and yes, she did). And boy, from March 2025 onward, this remained one of the studio’s best-kept secrets and theories until the film’s release last week. Now, in a recent interview with Variety, Feige spoke about it, noting that it has “immense significance” for the audience.
“It’s purely about creating the best possible opening weekend experience for the audience,” Feige said. “Sadie’s character is one that our fans know has immense significance within the Marvel Universe, and she plays a key role in the future of the MCU. I’m just happy that the secret is finally out and that Sadie can stop dodging the question.”
