Margot Robbie recalls her first “awkward” sex scene: “There isn’t an option”

The Wolf of Wall Street star opens up about filming an intimate scene with Leonardo DiCaprio as her first-ever sex scene.

Update:

The filmmaking world offers countless behind-the-scenes stories about the challenges actors face, especially when it comes to sex scenes. For Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie, filming her first-ever sex scene opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ was nothing short of uncomfortable. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Robbie reflected on that 2013 moment, calling it a deeply awkward experience, and something she was forced to push through.

“Actually, I hadn’t done a proper sex scene before. I’d done scenes where it’s leading into sex or sex has just finished, but I hadn’t done a start-to-finish sex scene like I did inWolf. That was my first,” she told Vanity Fair. “Tons of people are watching you.”

“Were you worried you were not going to be able to do it?” the interviewer asked. Robbie was blunt: “There isn’t an option. It’s just like, This is what you need to do—get on with it. The sooner you do it, the sooner you can stop doing it. It’s so awkward.”

Robbie had previously appeared in a shower scene in a low-budget Australian film, but Wolf was her first actual sex scene, complete with fully exposed intimacy and paparazzi-style sexual tension.

A bold leap into adult roles

In Scorsese’s acclaimed film, Robbie plays Naomi Lapaglia, the seductive wife of stockbroker Jordan Belfort, portrayed by DiCaprio. One unforgettable moment sees her wearing just a mini-skirt, pushing him with her designer heel and delivering the infamous line: “Mommy is just so sick and tired of wearing panties.”

Transitioning from lighter, PG-rated roles to Scorsese’s intense, R-rated world was a major shift for Robbie, emotionally and professionally. And while ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ remains a risky narrative about sex, drugs, and power, it marked a pivotal moment in Robbie’s acting evolution.
