Mario Kart World delves into its mechanics, items, and characters. Here’s what the Direct left us with about the first Nintendo Switch 2 title

This morning we had the first Nintendo Direct focused on Nintendo Switch 2 era games, including Mario Kart World, which will be one of the launch titles for the new version of Nintendo’s hybrid console and promises to raise the bar for Mario Kart racing. Below, we bring you everything that was announced and detailed about the game.

Everything presented during the Nintendo Direct focused on Mario Kart World

The world and its tracks

As has been explained since the presentation, you will now be able to drive around this connected world of tracks that run through different regions and biomes. The first announced tracks are

  • Mario Bros. Circuit
  • Crown City
  • Salty Salty Speedway
  • Starview Peak
  • Boo Cinema
  • Toad’s Factory
  • Peach Beach
  • Wario Shipyard

In addition to the new tracks, some old tracks will be part of this world, but with a twist.

Characters

Mario Kart is not Mario Kart without the classic Mushroom Kingdom characters, but now we have Goomba, Spike, Cow, and many more in the character catalog.

Grand Prix and Knockout Tour

The two main game modes in Mario Kart World. In both, the characters will not be the only danger on the track, as other vehicles that appear along the way will also pose a threat to us.

  • Gran Prix, the classic races will take place as usual, in groups of four tracks scattered around the world. And for the first time we will have to drive for our next race. If we have won all the cups, a colorful classic track is promised.
  • Knockout Cup is the other game mode, which works more like a rally and takes us through more tracks and distances. Here it is important to be in the first places; otherwise, you will be eliminated.

Items

Items are one of the classic elements of the game, and there were some items that will make their debut in the game:

  • Coin Shell - will allow you to grab coins once you throw the shell
  • Ice Flower - freezes your opponents
  • Hammer - the devastating power of the Hammer Bros. with big hammers affecting the track
  • Mega Mushroom - will make you grow and crush the other characters
  • Feather - a classic that will make you jump
  • Kamek - magic will transform your competition
  • Bullet Bill - another returning classic that will appear when you are among the last places

Costumes

On the roads you will find diners called “Yoshi’s” where you can buy takeout food that will allow you to unlock costumes inspired by the type of food. Once unlocked, you will be able to choose from them.

New Tricks

  • Charge Jump allows you to jump higher, allowing you to dodge attacks or reach places that normal jumping doesn’t allow.
  • Rewind allows you to go back in time and try to take a shortcut, but as you rewind, your enemies will keep moving.

Other game modes

  • Time Trials are a race against time. You can download the ghosts of other players.
  • Vs Race allows you to change the rules of the game when playing with friends. Battle Mode returns with the classic Coin Runners and Balloon Battle modes.

Free Roam

If you want to roam the world, this is the place to do it. There are also missions to improve your skills. You can find special coins, ? panels and much more.

During Free Roam, you can also use Photo Mode to capture the most memorable moments.
