Marvel continues filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Holland downplays concerns: “We’re just adding the icing on the cake”

Tom Holland explains why additional scenes are being filmed just months before release.

Update:

The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to premiere in a few months. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is scheduled to hit theaters this summer, marking Marvel’s first theatrical release since ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ in 2025. But even though the premiere is just three months away, filming is still underway, as revealed by the film’s lead actor, Tom Holland.

This was revealed in a new interview with GQ, where the actor explained the motives behind these reshoots, describing it more as “adding the icing on the cake in certain areas” rather than something that should worry fans. Holland mentioned that these additional scenes serve two specific purposes: to add more depth to the villain’s story and to inject a bit more humor. “I can positively say that the stuff we’re doing, we don’t need. The movie works and shines as it is. We’re just adding the icing on the cake in certain areas. We’re finding some ways to add a little bit more humor. We’re layering in a villain plotline in a new way and some really fun stuff.

The wait to discover the true villain

While the humor in Marvel movies comes as no surprise, it’s worth remembering that Spider-Man has always used this element as part of his fighting style, trading barbs with his enemies as a way to keep himself calm. However, questions remain about the villain’s role. Although we’ve seen Scorpion as one of the villains set to appear, there’s still a lot of uncertainty about what we’ll actually see on screen.
