Marvel delays Deadpool 3, Captain America 4, Thunderbolts, and Blade: here is their new release date
With the strikes over, Marvel Studios can continue to work on its upcoming productions, but films like Deadpool 3 and Thunderbolts are now shifting their release dates accordingly.
Marvel Studios has just announced several changes to its upcoming movie release schedule, which has left the production house with a single premiere in 2024 while most of its slate has been shifted back to 2025.
As reported by Variety, Disney has chosen to make several big changes in release dates for all of its divisions, and Marvel ended up being one of the most impacted: Deadpool 3 was originally set to be released on May 3, 2024, but after its filming was interrupted by the writers and actors’ strikes it now has the responsibility of carrying the entirety of Marvel Studio’s next year on the big screen. It is now set to release on July 26, 2024.
Captain America: Brave New World was planned for July 26, 2024, but will now be released on February 14, 2025. According to Variety, the movie had already finished principal photography, but production was halted throughout the strikes as additional filming was still necessary. The Anthony Mackie-led film is the next big step for the studio as his first time as the new Captain America on the movie side of the universe, as he had already made his debut with the title in Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021.
The future of the MCU change considerably
On the other hand, the ex-villain team-up movie that was teased as a “dark avengers” style crossover with antagonists and anti-heroes of the MCU is still to begin its production. Thunderbolts was supposed to release on December 20, 2024, but will now come to theaters in July 25, 2025. This is probably the production we have heard of the least so far.
The Blade movie with Mahershala Ali has been through the ringer in the last few years, as not only was its script rejected completely, several problems have come to the project during its pre-production phase that pushed its development further back down the line. It’s latest release date was February 15, 2025, but now it’s planned for November 7, 2025.
As The Marvels has only just released in theaters, Marvel Studios is now facing a long period of time without any big releases on the big screen. Could it be that they’ve reconsidered the pace at which they set their MCU launches after a certain kind of superhero fatigue hit their audiences after Endgame?
