Update:

Summer is approaching, and with it comes one of the most anticipated blockbusters of the year, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. In a move that’s quite unusual, given the high level of secrecy, the first pages of the script have made their way online. And no, it wasn’t due to a leak; rather, Marvel shared them directly through Entertainment Weekly, complete with notes from director Destin Daniel Cretton. With this, we now know how the movie will begin, as well as some important details about the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s next adventure.

Bringing Spider-Man Back to the Streets

Although Spider-Man in the MCU has retained much of what makes the superhero who he is, he certainly sometimes felt like a mini-Iron Man because of all the Stark technology at his disposal. The opening pages of this script aim to bring Spider-Man back to that street-level vibe of the comics—something we certainly hadn’t seen in this version starring Tom Holland.

The script begins as soon as the Marvel Studios logo appears, with Peter Parker reading in voiceover the letter he was going to give to MJ at the end of ‘No Way Home’. Cretton’s notes suggest that Peter disappeared like Marty McFly in ‘Back to the Future’, and now finds himself completely alone. The script continues, noting that nine months have passed since No Way Home, and while working with an AI assistant named EV, he feels a “sharp headache”—something Peter shakes off. The notes continue, noting that all of Peter’s gadgets were built by Peter himself, and that EV is the closest thing Peter has to a friend.

Inside Peter’s room, we’ll see some glimpses of his past life. His cell phone will display notifications: “Flowers for May” to be placed on her grave, as well as a social media post about Ned and his life at MIT. “Peter smiles at them, even though he’s miserable without them,” the script read.

Peter continues reading the letter, and we see them right in that scene from the trailer, where he jumps from a steel beam down into the city. With that, we jump to “Begin Montage.” Remember that it was previously mentioned that ‘Brand New Day’ takes place four years after ‘No Way Home’, so here we might see how Spider-Man has once again become the superhero New York needs.
