‘Maul: Shadow Lord’ announced, a new animated ‘Star Wars’ series coming to Disney+ in 2026
Set after ‘The Clone Wars’, the series will explore the former Sith’s rise in the criminal underworld.

Once an apprentice to Darth Sidious, Darth Maul’s defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi shaped his destiny forever. Presumed dead, his hatred fueled his survival and transformation into a feared and respected criminal leader.
During the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Lucasfilm announced ‘Maul: Shadow Lord’, an original animated series coming to Disney+ in 2026. The story takes place one year after the seventh season of ‘The Clone Wars’, with Sam Witwer reprising his role as Maul.
Details revealed at Star Wars Celebration
- Sam Witwer, known for voicing Maul in ‘The Clone Wars’, ‘Rebels’, and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’, appeared on stage to confirm his return.
- Matt Michnovetz, who wrote arcs for ‘The Clone Wars’ and ‘Rebels’, will serve as the lead writer.
- The series will feature a new animation style, offering a fresh visual experience.

- ‘Tales from the Underworld’: The first episode will explore Asajj Ventress’ survival after the events of the novel ‘Dark Disciple’. This six-episode anthology series, also starring Cad Bane, premieres on May 4.
