Mortal Kombat 1’s new Halloween Fatality angers players for its high price

The price being asked to unlock a Halloween-themed Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1 has angered players and caused fear of future microtransactions.

Mortal Kombat 1 received new Halloween content to celebrate these festivities, although a very specific object among the new ones that have been added has unleashed the ire of the players: a DLC Fatality has made players angry due to its high price.

Mortal Kombat 1 sells a Halloween Fatality for 12 dollars and its players are angry

On Friday, October 27, the Mortal Kombat 1 weekly store rotated and added new content for Halloween. Among this content is a new Fatality called Happy Halloween, which costs 1,200 Dragon Krystals, the premium currency of the game. Taking into account that these obtainable by purchasing them with real money, the amount translates to around $12 US Dollars.

Below you’ll find a video of the Fatality in question. Whichever fighter has equipped the Fatality forcibly embeds a Halloween pumpkin full of insects onto the opponent’s head, and while they try to get away from the bugs, our character kicks the opponent’s head and the head (with the pumpkin) is thrown against the door of a house with Halloween and Mortal Kombat decorations.

The problem is not in the content itself but in its high price. Twelve dollars for a cosmetic item is a high cost, especially in a year in which for that same price you can buy complete game expansions like Separate Ways on Resident Evil 4 Remake.

In our Mortal Kombat 1 review, where we scored the title with a 9.5 out of 10, we mentioned that certain business decisions like making only the most expensive editions of the game include the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage, or selling Shang Tsung as a separate character from launch, are defects that spoil one of the best games not only of its genre, but of the generation.

Users on X/Twitter were not slow to show their discontent as soon as this information emerged:

Neither Netherrealm Studios or Warner Bros. have responded to fans so far, by which it would be understandable to believe that this high price for a cosmetic item will be maintained in the foreseeable future.
