MrBeast joins the Palworld vs. Pokémon controversy

The famous YouTuber has a strong opinion on the first viral game of 2024 and its inspiration, Nintendo’s Pocket Monster game.

Everyone has an opinion, but the voice is louder when it’s someone with a fan base and a following. And when it comes to one of the first controversies of the year, such as Palworld’s merit on Pokémon, you’d expect people like MrBeast to jump in and speak up.

MrBeast gives his opinion about Palworld

In recent days, the Palworld vs. Pokémon issue has pitted the communities of both games against each other, leading to comparisons of how an indie studio can present a game to a multi-million dollar corporation, as was the case with the Twitter/X account Opera GX. It made a comparison between an image of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and Palworld. In response, MrBeast himself commented that Pokémon titles “are still basically the same thing” as when he played them on the Gameboy, and that he hopes to “to reinvent the model and just slightly try to freshen it up”

Palworld vs. Pokémon and people’s opinions

Palworld, for those not in the know, has become the first viral game of 2024 to hit both Xbox Game Pass and PC, making it one of the most popular titles on Steam right now, just entering as Early Access. Whether it’s because of its survival mode, its monsters that have made it the “Pokémon with guns” or a combination of both, the internet community has taken to voicing their opinions. Some praise the work of an indie studio like Pocketpair in creating an entertaining world, while others attack the game for being a copy of Pokémon that also plagiarizes the design and structure of many pocket monsters.

Whether it is plagiarism or not, or whether it will maintain its popularity in the coming weeks as other viral titles have perished in recent years, the success that Palworld has had is something that cannot be denied.
