Naughty Dog

Neil Druckmann defines the main lines of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet: This is the context of Naughty Dog's retro-futuristic title

The title from the creators of Uncharted and The Last of Us still has no confirmed release date.

Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet

The 2024 Game Awards ended in style. After announcing the Okami sequel, Naughty Dog revealed its next project. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been in development since 2020, right around the time The Last of Us Part 2 was released. Although there is still not much information about it, director and screenwriter Neil Druckmann has dropped some pills about the background of the retro-futuristic title from the creators of Crash Bandicoot and Uncharted. In an interview with The New York Times, Druckmann confirmed that there will be a religious context.

A Fictional Religion

“The story is quite ambitious” and focuses on a fictional religion. “What happens when you put your faith in different institutions?” he asks. This new work has clear and recognized influences from manga classics such as ‘Akira’ or ‘Cowboy Bebop’, but beyond mentioning these notes, Neil Druckmann does not go out of line, so we must refer to the official synopsis. Jordan A. Mun, played by Tati Gabrielle, is a bounty hunter who travels to Sempiria, an isolated place from which no one has been able to escape for 600 years. The young woman will have to use all of her skills to achieve the impossible and survive one of the harshest places in the universe.

“Beyond that, we’re keeping everything about the story under wraps – at least for now,” Naughty Dog wrote on its website. “What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivaled only by our gameplay ambitions. This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history.”

Of Gabrielle, Druckmann said, “She has this intimidating presence to her. We brought her in for an audition, and she blew us away. It was one of those moments — like when I first saw Ashley Johnson as Ellie,” - the co-star of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is being developed exclusively for PS5. It is expected to be released on PC at a later date.
