Neither Max Payne nor Gears of War: Jack Quaid (‘The Boys’) reveals which game he’d bring to the big screen

Although fans have pointed out his resemblance to Max Payne, Quaid admits he hasn’t played it yet.

Jack Quaid

After rising to fame as the innocent—well, at first—Hughie in 'The Boys', Jack Quaid has built a reputation as an action hero, despite his boy-next-door looks. This week, he’ll hit theaters with 'Novocaine', a high-energy film where a genetic condition makes him immune to pain. In one frame, he pays homage to Max Payne, the classic game by Remedy, whose titular character bears more than a passing resemblance to Quaid himself. This sparked excitement among fans of the Finnish TPS, who began clamoring for Quaid to lead a big-screen adaptation.

However, it’s not Max Payne that Quaid dreams of adapting, but another legendary first-person shooter series—one that’s already slated for a budget-conscious TV adaptation. “I would love to be part of a live-action adaptation of Bioshock, one of my all-time favorite games,” Quaid confessed. “I think its rich lore could be beautifully explored as a series or a movie.”

While the homage to Max Payne is intentional—the likeness is too striking to be a coincidence—Quaid claims it wasn’t his idea. “I’ve seen people mention that I look like Max Payne, and even when I look at the cover art, I look like a double. I love Rockstar games, but unfortunately, I’ve never played it. It’s next on my list for sure.” Quaid references Rockstar as the studio behind Max Payne 3, while the first two installments were the creation of Sam Lake and his team.

What’s the latest on the ‘Bioshock’ series?

The Bioshock series is in development at Netflix. While news had been sparse for a long time, the updates shared during San Diego Comic-Con 2024 weren’t promising. The production revealed that the budget had been significantly cut, resulting in a more intimate approach to Ken Levine’s Bioshock universe, as envisioned by Irrational Games.

“The new regime has decided to reduce budgets,” producer Roy Lee confirmed. “So, we’re going for a smaller-scale version. It’s going to be a more personal perspective, as opposed to a big blockbuster project.”
