Netflix’s One Piece adaptation shows off its best feature yet: live-action den den mushi

The most famous (and weird) snails in the worlds of anime and manga are the main protagonists of the new One Piece images released by Netflix.

There are many things that can go wrong with the Netflix live-action adaptation of One Piece. Many, too many. But the den den mushi will not be one of them. The latest promotional images of the series have as protagonists the most famous snails in the world of anime, the den den mushi. In the world of Eiichiro Oda, these little animals serve as telephones, video cameras, and any other method of communication you can think of. They are the WhatsApp of the Grand Line.

Although in a manga or an anime such an idea can be snuck in without a second glance, in a live-action series it is more difficult to do something crazy like that and make it look good, but seeing what the streaming platform has to show, it seems that Netflix has achieved it. In fact, it has even managed to respect a very particular characteristic of the den den mushi: the fact that they look like their owners. Here you have the snails owned by Morgan “Axe Hand” and Garp, “Hero of the Marine”.

One Piece on Netflix: release date, number of chapters and duration

Start raising the anchor of the Going Merry, because the live-action adaptation of One Piece is already on the horizon. Luffy will set sail to become King of the Pirates on August, 31, the date on which all the episodes of the series will be released on Netflix. There will be 8 episodes of about 50 minutes in length and they will cover the entire East Blue Arc of the manga and anime (around 60 chapters and 100 episodes, respectively). With the 31st being a Thursday, the weekend of September 1 to 3 is the best time for a marathon.
