New 'One Piece' reward posters infuriate fans by being inflated
The new chapter of the manga turns the list of the series’ strongest characters upside down.
The announcement of new bounty posters has always been one of our favorite One Piece moments. They show the growth of the Straw Hats, they create tension between them, and they put on the table who their rivals will be in the future. They are a nest of jokes and speculations about the balance of power. However, in chapter 1.130 of the manga, two posters were updated and the decision did not go down well with the community (spoilers from the next paragraph).ç
The change affects Dorry and Broggy’s bounty posters. The two giants we met in the Little Garden arc (one of the ones covered in the second season of the live-action, where we see how they represent their size) have reappeared in the story on the occasion of Luffy’s arrival in Elbaf, and Oda has raised the price on their heads from 100 million berries... to 1,880,000,000.
More than a few fans have raised their voices to the sky, wondering why such a huge amount. If they were only worth 100 billion in their day, when they both sailed the seas and were the talk of the town, why would they be in the top 15 rewards after years of disappearing? Some say it’s because of inflation, but... Shouldn’t Gold D. Roger and the rest of the historical figures be changed?
And wouldn’t inflating the rewards of the great pirate legends now, in the last part of the series, when Luffy has already started to catch up with them, make them unattainable? Wouldn’t it drag things out or leave a bitter taste in the mouth if the series ends and the new Pirate King ends up fourth or fifth in the rankings?
There are those who say that their rise has to do with the mess they made in Egghead, the fact that they have been proven to live over 100 years, and the fact that they were found to be part of Shanks’ gang, but .... Is this justification enough and what do you think?
