Nintendo registers a Donkey Kong movie, and it makes all the sense in the world
The project has not been officially announced, but the character has been gaining more and more importance.
The sequel to ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is already in production, while the live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda’ continues to move forward despite its delay. At the same time, Nintendo continues to look to the future and is not going to be stuck with Mario and Link. The Kyoto-based company and Paramount Pictures have trademarked ‘Donkey Kong’, suggesting that video games’ most famous gorilla will star in a new movie. And yes, it makes perfect sense.
Nintendo itself called for the development of Donkey Kong Bananza, a new video game for Nintendo Switch 2 that not only redesigns the character but also establishes 3D gameplay through destruction mechanics.
Donkey Kong takes weight
The character had an important role in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ and now he will return to his natural habitat, video games, and then move back to the movies -if the project ends up coming together. In addition, Nintendo chose Donkey Kong for the first expansion of the Nintendo area at Universal’s theme parks.
On the future of multimedia products, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said they are working on initiatives beyond video games, in which the company is “deeply involved” in production.
Donkey Kong Bananza will be released on July 17, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. You can read everything we discovered in the Nintendo Direct focused on the game, here.
