‘X-Men ’97’ was the highly acclaimed sequel to the legendary ’90s animated series ‘X-Men.’ The first season of this Disney+ exclusive left fans with a very positive impression, and Season 2 premieres this coming July. To build anticipation for this new season, Marvel has revealed the release schedule and titles of all the new episodes, which give us a slight hint of where the plot might be heading. There are just a few days left until Wolverine, Cyclops, and the rest of the X-Men return with new adventures.
‘X-Men 97’ Reveals the Release Schedule for the New Episodes of Season 2
In an Instagram post, Marvel Studios and Disney+ have revealed the release schedule for the new episodes of Season 2 of ‘X-Men ’97.’ Pay close attention, because there are some surprises in store: there are nine episodes in total, and the first three will premiere on the same day—next Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Below is the complete list:
- Episode 1: ‘Days of Past Future’ – July 1
- Episode 2: ‘A Force to Be Reckoned With’ – July 1
- Episode 3: ‘Rise of Apocalypse – Part I’ – July 1
- Episode 4: ‘Rise of Apocalypse – Part II’ – July 8
- Episode 5: ‘Weapon X, Lies and DVDs’ – July 15
- Episode 6: ‘Danger.exe’ – July 22
- Episode 7: ‘Strange Land, Savage Heart’ – July 29
- Episode 8: ‘The Dead Man’s Hand’ – August 5
- Episode 9: ‘Survival of the Fittest’ – August 12
As we mentioned, the episode titles already give a pretty good idea of which comic book story arcs might be adapted into these new stories, with some being much more obvious than others. For one thing, the series will delve into Wolverine’s origins during the Weapon X project, when his skeleton was infused with adamantium. On the other hand, Professor Xavier’s students will also have to face Apocalypse once again—the most powerful mutant on the planet—which is one of the loose ends left by the series at the end of its previous season.

There will also be another visit to the Savage Land, a prehistoric tropical region that mutants often frequent in the comics. Last but not least, the final episode, titled ‘Survival of the Fittest,’hints at a new physical and ideological clash with Magneto to determine, once and for all, whether mutants and humans can coexist on planet Earth.

‘X-Men 97’ has, on its own merits, become one of Marvel’s highest-rated productions in recent years: it currently holds a 99% critics’ score and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, an 8.7/10 on IMDb, and a 7.7/10 on FilmAffinity. Those who have enjoyed its first season highlight its complex, mature narrative with real-world consequences—a far cry from other stories where the status quo barely changes with each new adventure. Another of its major strengths is that, although there’s room for the usual jokes and wisecracks, it’s a serious work that mostly takes itself seriously.
