One Piece and Los Angeles Lakers to collaborate in 2025

Will Luffy show LeBron James how to be the King of Basketball?

2025 is going to be a big year for ‘One Piece’, at least that’s what its creator Eiichiro Oda warned us a few days ago. With the manga reaching one of its most anticipated moments, the anime announcing its return date, and a second season of the Netflix live-action on the horizon, we can’t deny that the franchise will continue to look for ways to increase its following... even having a collaboration with the NBA.

Last weekend, the Los Angeles Lakers X account (formerly Twitter) announced that a collaboration will unite the beloved Straw Hat Pirates with the Lakers for a "One Piece Night" on February 28th, 2025. At the moment, no further information has been given as to what the collaboration is about. For now, it is known through the official NBA calendar that the night will be a Full LA night, as the opponent of the day will be the Los Angeles Clippers.

Luffy is no stranger to sports in the USA

While a few years ago such a collaboration would have been completely out of the question, we are at a point in history where the world of anime and sports are getting closer and closer. Besides, this isn’t the first time Luffy has made an official appearance on a Los Angeles team. In early December 2023, the LA Rams held a special collaboration day at SoFi Stadium, where anime themed gifts were given to those who attended the game. Later this year, the Boston Red Sox baseball team hosted a “One Piece Night” at Fenway Park in August during the second game of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays. This is undoubtedly another example of the speed at which One Piece has conquered the world.
