One Piece anime reaches its climax with Luffy’s death episode

Kaidou defeated Luffy for the sixth and final time at the climax of Onigashima in episode 1069 of the One Piece anime, in a scene that was as emotional as it was historic.

Update:
One Piece

It’s over. The battle at the climax of Onigashima has come to an end. The winner was the same as always: Kaidou of the Beasts. Although Luffy pushed him to the limit, just as he was about to launch his last attack, CP0 appeared and distracted the future king of the pirates, causing him to take a definitive hit without any defense. Game, set, and match. Chapter 1069 of the One Piece anime will always be remembered as the death of Monkey D. Luffy.

The strongest pirate in One Piece

This is Luffy’s sixth defeat by Kaidou since the beginning of the Wano arc. We haven’t seen something like this since the series started 26 years ago and we probably won’t see it again. Of course, nothing else was to be expected from the man introduced by the series’ narrator as follows:

“This is a man who challenged the Marines and Four Emperors and was caught 18 times - and endured over a thousand tortures. He was sentenced to death forty times. When he was hanged, the rope snapped. When put under the guillotine, the blade cracked… When skewered, the spear broke. Ultimately, he sank nine different prison vessels. Meaning none of these people were able to kill him! And that included he himself.” Luffy has experienced firsthand what it is like to face Kaidou of the Beasts, the strongest pirate in the New World.

Kaidou mourns Luffy’s death

Kaidou’s face when he sees Luffy fall conveys anything but joy, and rightly so. It was not a clean victory. A third party had to intervene, and he won thanks to the fight becoming a two-on-one. It’s a shame, a blot on his record that reminds him of what happened to Oden. The anime improved on the manga and made this scene even more emotional by introducing several flashbacks of the former Wano Shogun, whom he defeated in the same way.

It had been a long, long time since Kaidou had an opponent who could compete with him. He enjoyed the fight and he thanked and respected Luffy for it. Many of the Yonko’s drunken nights had been spent trying to cheer up and add color to a life that had lost all interest with the fall of his great rivals. Without Roger, without Whitebeard... even without Xebec. But when he had felt most alone and found the fewest challenges and reasons to live, the New Generation had given him new energy. Now he even wanted to go for the One Piece. But CP0 brought him back to reality and robbed him of any satisfaction.

The most anticipated episode of One Piece

The question that all anime fans are asking now is: what now? Well, now it’s time to see how Kaidou reacts to CP0′s intervention, how the Straw Hats take the defeat of their captain, and how the Onigashima War ends. And of course, it’s time for one of the events of the year. The most awaited episode of One Piece, 1071, which already has a release date. An episode in which everything will change forever and of which the most observant have already noticed that there is a small preview in 1069 (as you can see in the image below).

One Piece
Full screen

We won’t go into major spoilers, but for those of you who can’t resist the temptation to find out what happens, we leave you with a feature on the biggest One Piece revolution in the last decade. It’s an open secret by now (it even appeared in One Piece RED), but even knowing that, we couldn’t be more excited to see it animated. Long live Monkey D. Luffy. And of course to Eichiiro (G)Oda.
