There is already an official date for the One Piece episode that will change everything. The most anticipated episode of the year. The one about Gear 5, Luffy’s new transformation that will put an end to the eternal Onigashima war and the Wano arc. No spoilers, no bullshit. By now it’s an open secret (it even appeared in the One Piece RED movie) and the only mystery is how it will look like in animation.
Date of the Gear 5 episode in One Piece
According to Toei Animation, the studio behind the anime, the series will show Gear 5 next Sunday, August 6, 2023. It will be during episode 1071, although it is very likely that the ending of episode 1070 will turn everything upside down (just look at its title: Luffy’s Defeat!!!? The Determination of Others).
It will be available on its usual channel (Crunchyroll) on Sunday at its usual time in the United States:
It has also been confirmed that starting from chapter 1070, we will have a new opening for One Piece in which the transformation will be an important part.
Luffy’s latest transformation?
It’s been 18 years since Luffy surprised us all with Gear 2, his first major power-up. To give you an idea, it was back in the Enies Lobby arc, in October 2005, when we were in chapter 387 of the manga (in the anime, it would happen a year later, in episode 272, which aired in 2006). From there to Gear 3, also called Gia sado, it was only a few months. Nine years passed between Gear 3 and Gear 4, but it was worth the wait. We will never forget the moment when Eiichiro Oda pulled it out of his sleeve during the battle with Doflamingo, easily one of the best battles in the series. And now, another eight years later, we are witnessing another historic moment for One Piece, maybe the last, as we are in the final phase of the series?
