Overwatch 2 director talks about being the lowest-rated game in Steam history

An unpleasant experience for Overwatch 2.

Update:
Overwatch 2 director talks about being the lowest-rated game in Steam history

The arrival of Overwatch 2 on Steam has meant another complicated moment for Blizzard Entertainment. The company that has long been held up as an example of excellence in the video game industry is now under greater scrutiny from its community. The hero shooter has become the worst-reviewed game in Steam’s history, and Aaron Keller, the game’s director, has spoken out about the fact. Should there be more control over review bombing by platforms?

Aaron Keller spoke on the official Overwatch website about what happened with the game’s arrival on Steam and the launch of its new expansion: Invasion. The game director has stated that “although being review-bombed isn’t a fun experience, it’s been great to see lots of new players jump into Overwatch 2 for the first time.” Keller has tried to be polite with a fact that surely will not have sat well in the ranks of Blizzard, and that is that although the sequel to the hero shooter that was once GOTY does not satisfy all its players, and some of the promises made by Blizzard have not been fulfilled, the game is far from the overall rating it is receiving on Steam.

The issue of review bombing

The Overwatch 2 director went on to talk about what happened on Steam, noting that “many of the reviews on Steam mention the cancellation of the much larger component of PvE that was announced in 2019 as one of their primary reasons for dissatisfaction with the game. I get that. That announcement was about an ambitious project that we ultimately couldn’t deliver.” Nevertheless, he is clear about what they can do with the game: “We can keep adding to and improving Overwatch 2.″

Despite the wave of negative reviews, Overwatch 2 averages 46,000 players per day on Steam, with a peak of 75,000 players.
