Peacemaker Season 2 begins filming this year according to James Gunn, but things are a bit complicated

James Gunn has given fans a timeline for Season 2 of Peacemaker, while also revealing how the show will work in the new DC universe he’s building.

Update:
Peacemaker Season 2 begins filming this year according to James Gunn, but things are a bit complicated

James Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will begin filming during the summer of 2024, while at the same time he’ll be shooting Superman. However, it’s now official that the show’s first season will not be part of the official canon.

As Gunn tends to do, he unveiled this new information through his social media accounts, this time on Threads. “Yes, we’ll be shooting Superman & Peacemaker simultaneously; yes, I’ve written all the episodes; but, no, in the interest of getting the show out there I won’t be able to direct them all (only some)”

However, while Season 2 will carry over most of the actors from the first season, the story will be different in as-of-yet untold ways. This is because Season 1 takes place in the previous DCEU, as a direct continuation of The Suicide Squad, which Gunn himself directed. This and the appearance of the previous incarnations of the Justice League (including Ezra Miller’s Flash and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman) firmly place it as a part of that previous timeline, but now none of that will matter in the show anymore.

Season one isn’t canon,” said Gunn answering to fans. According to the director, the new season will take place after the events in Superman , with whatever happens in that world having a direct effect on Peacemaker. Additionally, the show about Amanda Waller will also still happen, but it’ll be set after Peacemaker Season 2.

So far we only know that most of the actors in Season 1 will return for the new season, including John Cena himself, Jennifer Holland, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, and more. But the DCU is still waiting to begin officially. Superman, with David Corenswet as Clark Kent, is set to come to theaters in 2025. But the universe will officially begin with Creature Commandos, an animated series that will premiere this year.
