DC Studios

‘Superman Legacy’ begins filming, changes title, and shows off the hero’s new logo

With ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ off the big screen, DC Studios begins their newest Man of Steel project, first in their rebooted DCU.

Update:
Superman

‘Superman Legacy’ is no longer called ‘Superman Legacy’. The film directed by James Gunn changed its title and is now simply called ‘Superman’. Filming has finally started and the director shared one of the best-kept secrets, What does the superhero’s ‘S’ logo on his chest look like? There is no better way of finding out than taking a look at his Instagram account, where he usually leaves clues and reports on the productions in which he is involved.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be - coincidentally and unplanned - Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

Who’s who in ‘Superman’?

The film marks the reboot of the DC Extended Universe, which separates itself from Zack Snyder’s films, which is why Henry Cavill will not continue wearing the Man of Steel’s tights. James Gunn has chosen David Corenswet as the new Superman, who in this film will have to deal with his identity dichotomy: Clark Kent, the man, the journalist; Superman, the hero, the savior. Other characters from this universe who will be back are Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and the evil Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, and Isabela Merced are also part of the cast.

Little is known about the film’s premise, beyond that the hero will have to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his past as the adopted son of a family in the rural United States. Lex Luthor is presumably the antagonist, although specific details are not yet known. After ‘Superman’, DC Studios is working on ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’, ‘The Authority’ and ‘The Brave and the Bold’.

‘Superman premieres in July 2025.
