PlayStation Network servers down: Sony’s two recommendations in the event of a hack

The platform has been down for more than 12 hours and many fear another PSN Gate, but at the time the company’s only advice was to be patient.

PSN Caída

It’s been a long time since the PlayStation servers went down like this. They have been down for 12 hours and counting (here’s how to check their status and find out when they will be back). The fact that Sony is taking so long to resolve the problems is not normal and has led many users to remember the case of PSN Gate, when they were down for a month due to a hacking attack. Still convinced that this is not the same and that it will be fixed in the next few hours, we bring you the two tips that Sony offered when they had this breach in their security.

Obviously, these two tips from the PlayStation team to our colleges in Spain are for the worst case scenario. They go like this:

  • During these days, we should frequently check the movements and possible transactions made with our credit or debit card, paying particular attention to anything that seems strange to us and that, in the hypothetical case, we should immediately notify our bank and Sony itself.
  • Do not respond to any emails, text messages or other communications from Sony requesting information about your bank account or other personal information. The PlayStation company would like to publicly and individually warn its users that they will not be asked for any information or confirmation during these days, and that they should not respond to these requests, which may appear completely official (with logos, Sony sender, typography, warnings, etc.).

If there has been another security breach, just keep an eye on your bank details and don’t give out any additional information to anyone for the next few days. “It’s obviously an inconvenience that affects millions of gamers and PlayStation’s brand image, but the most important thing for us is to get the service back up and running with all security measures in place.

If it’s just a drop, however exaggeratedly long, it can’t hurt to change your password and watch your back. Knock on wood and let’s see if we play sooner rather than later.
