PS5 Pro is on the way, but PlayStation is already thinking about PS6: This brand has lost the race to work on the next generation
Reuters sources claim that Intel was very close to bringing to life the heart of the interior of the next PS6.
The community is still shocked by the price of the PS5 Pro and the industry is already talking about the next generation. PlayStation’s plans with PS6 are completely unknown in the public light, but media such as Reuters throw new bits of information on how the manufacturer wants to build its next step in the console market. According to sources consulted by the aforementioned site, Intel lost the race to shape the heart of the Japanese company’s next-generation hardware.
PS6 to feature backwards compatibility, according to Reuters
The events took place in 2022. PlayStation sat down at the negotiating table with the two major chip manufacturers: Intel and AMD. The American company were close to a successful conclusion, but their terms were rejected in favor of the South Koreans. The reason? Profit margins, which were insufficient despite a forecast of $30 billion in direct profit to Intel’s coffers.
The Reuters report highlights one element that will be part of the PS6′s structure: backwards compatibility. For PlayStation, offering the catalog of the company’s previous consoles is key to the future of its new console. Media sources indicate that this was one of the topics that the brand discussed with Intel engineers and executives. If so, Intel’s investment to make it possible would be greater than that of its main rival. Logical, considering that PS5 mounts a chip customized by AMD, so the move to another of the same company would be a sweet transition in technical terms.
