Red Dead Redemption comparison on Switch, PS4, and PS3: which one is better?

Rockstar’s cowboy sandbox classic, Red Dead Redemption, is back to let players relive John Marston’s adventure. But how does it hold up to the original release?

Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games ever for many players and now you can play it on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Ps5 (on Xbox it has been backwards compatible for years). The sandbox set in the Wild West from Rockstar that originally came to PS3 and Xbox 360 and marked us all thanks to the John Marston story has returned with Undead Nightmare, its zombie expansion, so it’s time to take a look at the port’s graphics and see how much it’s improved from the original, starting with resolution and framerate.

  • On PS4, the resolution is 1080p and the game runs at 30fps.
  • On Nintendo Switch, 1080p and 30 FPS on dock and 720 and 30 FPS on portable

El Analista de Bits, responsible for the comparison, points out that we are facing a very good version on both consoles, since the visual jump is very notorious with respect to PS3, as well as loading times, which are three times faster. In the PS4 version it is also possible to activate FSR 2, an AMD technology that improves image quality. Below you can see a video with the comparison.

Is Red Dead Redemption worth it on Switch and PS4?

At MeriStation we have already played this new version of Red Dead Redemption, specifically the one for Nintendo Switch which, as you have seen in the video above, is very similar to the one for PS4. Our impressions? Really positive: “Red Dead Redemption on Nintendo Switch is a convincing port. The transfer to Double Eleven Studios becomes an excellent opportunity to discover (or revisit) one of Rockstar’s great classics. We especially highlight the portable mode. Our experience based on the OLED model is fantastic. It goes beyond the fact that it looks fantastic on the screen: the port has really been taken care of despite not having taken advantage of functions such as the gyroscope “.

Red Dead Redemption is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4, so you can also play it on PS5. In the case of Microsoft consoles, the reason why it has not been released again is very simple: Xbox 360 gameplay is backward compatible and runs at 4K on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Where it cannot be found is on PC, since John Marston continues to resist computers.
