Red Dead Redemption voice actors teased big news, but it’s not the announcement fans were hoping for

The teased “big news” from the Red Dead Redemption cast wasn’t a remaster... it’s a live reunion event.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Over the past week, fans of Red Dead Redemption were buzzing with speculation after Rob Wiethoff (John Marston) and Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan) hinted at “exciting news” related to the franchise. Many believed this was the long-awaited reveal of a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2, or even a new entry in the series. But as it turns out, the big surprise was something far more grounded: a cast reunion at the National Gaming Expo in Tampa, Florida.

What actually happened?

The hype began when Wiethoff teased “something exciting” during a livestream, followed by Clark responding to fan speculation with a cheeky GIF. This led many to believe Rockstar Games was preparing a major announcement. However, Wiethoff later clarified that he doesn’t make announcements for Rockstar and admitted he may have “misled some people”.

The actual reveal? A live reunion panel featuring several cast members from Red Dead Redemption 2, scheduled for August 8–10, 2025, at the National Gaming Expo. While not the next-gen patch or sequel fans were hoping for, it’s still a rare opportunity to see the voices behind the Van der Linde gang together again.

Why fans were misled

The confusion stemmed from the timing and tone of the actors’ posts, which coincided with ongoing rumors about a Red Dead Redemption 2 re-release for modern consoles. With Rockstar’s notoriously tight-lipped approach to announcements, fans are always on high alert for any hint of movement, and this time, the speculation ran wild.

While the “big news” wasn’t a new game or remaster, the upcoming cast reunion is still a treat for longtime fans. It’s a reminder that even years after release, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to inspire a passionate community. Just maybe… next time, the tease will lead to something more.
