Remedy gives update on Control 2 and Max Payne remakes
The studio behind Alan Wake, Control, and more gives an update on its upcoming projects, but no specific dates yet.
Remedy hasn’t stopped surprising us in recent years, showing the level it has reached as a studio. In 2019, it was the big winner of the year with Control, which took the GOTY at The Game Awards. In 2023, it reached the much-discussed battle for Game of the Year with an Alan Wake 2 that surprised everyone. Now the studio, based in Espoo, Finland, has given an update on its new projects.
Control 2, Max Payne and more in Remedy’s future
In its latest earnings report, Remedy announced that Control 2 is now in “production readiness”, while its multiplayer spin-off Condor has entered full production. On the other hand, the remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 have also entered the same production stage. No release window has been given for these titles yet, but considering the stage they have entered, we can be sure that it will be years before we know anything concrete.
The future looks bright for the studio. It was in 2022 that Remedy announced the sequel to Control, and Mikael Kasurinen, director of the franchise, mentioned that it would be worth the wait: “With Control, we leaped into the unknown. We wanted to create something new. Something different and unexpected. A world like no other. Thank you, the audience, for making Control such a success for us.” Earlier this year, Remedy acquired all rights to the Control franchise from publisher 505 Games.
Meanwhile, the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 announced on April 2022, with the goal of coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S series, with the goal of maintaining, in the studio’s words, “typical Remedy AAA-game production.” “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala.
