Riot confirms that Arcane is only the beginning, and “just the first of many stories that we want to tell”

League of Legends’ Netflix show, Arcane, is ending with its upcoming Season 2, but the people behind them have more stories they’d like to bring to the screen.

The release of Arcane’s Season 2 trailer has given us many things to be excited about, as well as a slightly sad announcement for fans who had hoped to see many seasons of the show: the story of Jinx and Vi is coming to a full stop with this new season. But before anyone can get bummed out, Riot Games has confirmed that this will not be the end.

Shared through social media, the company company behind League of Legends revealed the trailer above, alongside the surprice announcement that it would be the final season of the show. However, it didn’t take long for them to talk about what’s coming next: “Arcane ‘is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche,” said co-creator of the show Christian Linke.

“From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of ‘Arcane’ wraps up with this second season. But ‘Arcane’ is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

The future of Arcane goes far beyond this story

“Arcane” stars Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell as Vi and Jinx, two sister characters that have been part of the lore of Runeterra since their arrival on League of Legends. Their story is at the crux of Arcane’s plot, which itself explores the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun and their socioeconomic problems which have resulted in rampant crime, uncontrolled scientific advances, rebellions, oppression, resistance and much more.

At the end of Season 1, Jinx unleashed an attack against the ruling elite of Piltover, and the new trailer has revealed the direct consequences of her actions: all out war between the two cities, and complete chaos. So what else could be told in the future of Arcane, or whatever other shows Riot Games decides to produce after its end?

The world of Runeterra and League of Legends is full to the brim with, as the name of the game implies, legendary characters, heroes, villains, gods and everything in between. So there is an almost endless source of stories that could eventually be brought to the small (or the big) screen.
