Scarlett Johansson may be the next ‘Jurassic Park’ protagonist

The Jurassic Park/Jurassic World franchise is planned to continue with a new cast of characters, and it seems like Scarlett Johansson is at the top of the list.

After many weeks of rumors, it’s finally official: Scarlett Johansson already has an offer on the table to star in the seventh installment of ‘Jurassic Park’, still without a definitive name. After the departure of director David Leitch (‘Bullet Train’) from the project, and the signing of Gareth Edwards, the production company is looking for a big Hollywood star, and the one finally chosen has been Johansson.

Insider Jeff Sneider already published a few days ago that these conversations were taking place, although nothing was officially confirmed. Any plot details are still unknown, but we do know that it will be set in a “new Jurassic era,” and that will dispense with the main couple from the ‘Jurassic World’ trilogy, that is, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. On the other hand, there is speculation that the name of the film could finally be ‘Jurassic City’.

In charge of the film is Frank Marshall, who produced the original trilogy at the time, as well as Amblin Entertainment, the production company of Steven Spielberg, director of the first film. On the other hand, the choice of Gareth Edwards to be behind the cameras seems a wise decision, taking into account this director’s resume with films such as ‘The Creator’, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ and 2014′s ‘Godzilla’, so neither monster movies nor science fiction are new genres for him.

The forecast is that this film may be released in July of 2025, on dates almost coinciding with the new ‘Superman’ by James Gunn.

Jennifer Lawrence was the first choice

Even though the chosen one was Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence was the first actress who was considered by Universal. Lawrence, however, seems to have grown tired of participating in big franchises like ' X-Men’ and ‘The Hunger Games’, having worked in no less than four films each, playing Mystique and Katniss Everdeen respectively.
