Schwarzenegger tricked Stallone into choosing one of the worst films of his career
At the time, the two were engaged in their own particular war.
During the early years of their careers, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were rivals. Both action movie stars have appeared in excellent films, as well as films of questionable quality. In the early 1990s, Schwarzenegger tricked Stallone into appearing in one of the worst films of his career.
Schwarzenegger was offered the lead role in ‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot,’ but turned it down. Before he did, however, he pretended he was interested so Stallone would take the bait. “I read the script. It was very bad. You know I’ve made some movies that went straight down the toilet, right? They were bad. But this one was really bad,” he said.
Here’s how Schwarzenegger tricked Stallone
“I’m going to pretend I’m very interested. I knew how it worked in Hollywood. Then I would ask for a lot of money. Whereas they’d say, ‘Let Sly take the role. Maybe we can get it cheaper.’”
“So they went to Sly and said, ‘Schwarzenegger is interested. Watched the press footage. He talked about it. If you want to snatch it from him, you have the opportunity‘. And he got it! He took it. A week later, I heard, ‘Sly is signing on to do this movie.’ And I said to myself: ‘Yes, that’s how it should be!’”
In 2006, Stallone himself acknowledged that ‘Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot’ is the worst film of his career. “Maybe one of the worst films in the entire solar system, including alien productions we’ve never seen.”
