“Some remakes” of Assassin’s Creed games are in development

Some classic Assassin’s Creed titles will be updated in the coming years, according to company CEO Yves Guillemot.

Update:
Assassin's Creed Nexus

Assassin’s Creed is one of the most important titles for Ubisoft. A franchise that has maintained an annual cadence for the company and, in addition to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows, promises a unique platform on which to play them. But plans for the franchise seem to continue to grow, as the French company notes that “some remakes” are in development.

According to an interview published on Ubisoft’s website, CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned that there are plans to bring back some of the past titles of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, although at the moment there is no exact list of titles chosen to return to the Animus.

“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes,” Guillemot said, “which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich. Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”

Assassin’s Creed with remasters, but no remakes

The closest we’ve had so far are the remasters of Assassin’s Creed III and The Ezio Collection bundle, which combined the Assassin’s Creed 2 trilogy, Brotherhood, and Revelations into one game.

This would be the first time that Assassin’s Creed has received a remake in its 17 years of existence. And while there is no indication from Ubisoft as to which title would receive a remake, Kotaku reported last year (and supported by Insider Gaming) that it could be Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, with Ubisoft Singapore being the main studio behind the work.
