Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the powers Cal Kestis got in the first game, will we have to get them back?
Director Stig Asmussen responds to this concern, confirming some changes and arguing that they have polished the character in the sequel.
One of the central themes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is the evolution of protagonist Cal Kestis, a former Jedi Padawan who shuts himself off from the Force in order to survive after the iconic Order 66. Throughout the adventure, the character gradually regains his dormant Jedi powers, and now that the sequel is about to be released, one wonders if he will have to regain them again. In an interview with MeriStation, Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, denied this and confirmed that the abilities will be available from the start.
Although in video games it is common for a character to “forget” their progress from one installment to the next, in the case of Respawn’s work, the recovery of powers is linked to the narrative itself. Nevertheless, the head of the project has stressed that specific changes have been made.
A better-built and more refined protagonist
Asmussen stated that “You don’t get all your powers back. Some of the abilities you get at the end of the first game have changed a little bit because the whole move set has been redefined.” The director points out that the studio has also gained experience, which has had an impact on the process of building the protagonist and his abilities:
“It took us five years to make this game, but it’s been several years since we learned how to create Cal as our hero. You’ll notice it feels a little more refined.” While they didn’t remove anything, they did tweak some of the Jedi’s powers.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on April 28th for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PS5, and PC. The game continues the story of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight who fights against the Galactic Empire and everything it stands for.
