And while we wait for more details about ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ which is scheduled for May 2026, the follow-up film, ‘Star Wars: Starfighter,’ has already begun production. With that, Lucasfilm has announced the cast for this upcoming film starring Ryan Gosling, as well as revealed the first look.

Star Wars: Starfighter’ is currently filming in the United Kingdom under the direction of Shawn Levy, who directed ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In addition to Ryan Gosling, the main cast will include Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Amy Adams. “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter,” says filmmaker Shawn Levy on the official website. “Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”

What do we know about Star Wars Starfighter?

Although not many details have been revealed since its announcement in April this year, we know that the film will take place five years after Episode IX. However, its director has said that we can expect it to be a “new adventure.” “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel,” Levy said at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in April. “It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet.”

Star Wars: Starfighter will be released theatrically on May 28, 2027.
