Steam is preparing a major redesign of its interface while you play: you can now beta test it

Valve reveals the first details of its redesigned interface as you play.

Not forgetting the current Steam design, Valve is preparing important changes to the interface that players see while playing. The classic Alt + Tab key will see relevant changes that will give more distribution options without leaving the title you are running. If you are in the beta program of the client, you can already enjoy it for yourself.

How does the new Steam interface change the way you play?

The company points out that they have “completely redesigned the in-game overlay” when running Steam’s most famous command. As you can see in the image below this paragraph, a toolbar is installed at the bottom center of the screen where you can select the windows you want to have active at that moment. Achievements, friends, chats, or screenshots appear as small floating islands on the screen.

“The new toolbar gives you access to anything you may need in the middle of a game – friends chat, achievements progress, guides, discussions, a browser, and more,” Valve wrote in an official blog post. “We’ve picked a couple windows by default, and you can pick and personalize the pieces of content you’d like to see in your overlay - settings are saved between games. This toolbar can be switched between an icon view and a list view in Settings.”

A Notes app has been added to allow you to jot things down as you play. Any notes you make will be saved per game and will be synchronized across to any other PCs you are logged into.” For example, if you’re playing Elden Ring and you’ve saved a complicated dungeon for later, you can jot it down so you don’t forget. The new interface allows you to pin windows all over the screen as you play. You can easily adjust opacity and placement. This feature works with the Notes, Guides, Discussions, and the web browser. The screenshot manager and notification hub have also been redesigned.
