Summer Game Fest

Summer Game Fest 2024: Everything we know and what to expect at Geoff Keighley’s gala

A quick look at the rumors and leaks about the event and the list of games that have already announced their presence at what is undoubtedly the heir to the legendary E3.

The king is dead, long live the king. The days of E3 are behind us, along with all those mornings and afternoons spent in front of the screen, waiting for conferences and reading rumors. We will miss that intense course of mornings, afternoons, and sometimes evenings that would catch you up on video games for the rest of the year. But now that it has been canceled for good, you will have to cling to its heir, the Summer Game Fest.

When is Summer Game Fest?

Although it spans several days and includes multiple events, the highlight of Summer Game Fest is the Opening Gala, which takes place on June 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm PT/ 5:00 pm ET. It can be watched on the same YouTube and Twitch channels that broadcast The Game Awards. The conference will last about an hour and a half and has confirmed the participation of more than 50 game developers eager to surprise and unveil new products.

Differences between Summer Game Fest and Opening Gala

Back in the day, many thought that E3 were the conferences (when it was the days after, when the doors of the Los Angeles Convention Center were opened to the press to try out what had been announced), and something similar happens with Summer Game Fest. Most people think it’s just another one of Geoff Keighley’s many galas, but nothing could be further from the truth.

The Summer Game Fest is a myriad of conferences and events (here’s a calendar with all of them, absolutely all of them) that are announced and broadcast through the same social media and channels to organize (not to step on each other’s toes) and share speakers. Your calendar includes events of the caliber of the Xbox Showcase and the opening gala itself, and others more modest like the Wholesome Direct and the Future Games Show. That’s not counting the companies that prefer to do their own thing, but take advantage of the fact that everyone is watching these weeks to make their own live and streamed (this is the case of Ubisoft Forward).

To sum up, it is a kind of festival (as the name suggests) that lasts throughout the summer and that, in addition to the concerts of third parties (conferences), also celebrates one of its own and in style to start (the opening gala).
