‘Superman’: James Gunn finally confirms who’s the villain of the upcoming DC movie

After months of rumors and fan theories about who would be the villain of the upcoming ‘Superman’, the writer and director has taken online to clear any doubts.

James Gunn is preparing for the beginning of the new DC universe, with a new Superman movie that will kickoff this new continuity set to release soon. There have been many rumors surrounding the return of the Man of Steel, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the summer of 2025. As we don’t have many details about the plot, all kinds of theories have surfaced during the wait, even claiming that one that the film’s villain would be an evil version of Supes created by Lex Luthor. As a result, James Gunn himself has taken it upon himself to deny it all through Threads.

The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor, I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There are so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?),” wrote Gunn in Threads.

Superman is the beginning of DC’s new big project

The future of DC and, in part, of the survival of superhero movies, has one of its greatest supporters in James Gunn. The prominent filmmaker has high ambitions and is counting on actor David Corenswet as Superman, while Nicholas Hoult will be Lex Luthor. Also, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen among many other actors.

‘Superman’ is showing love for the legacy of DC Comics and the superhero himself by using classic iconography for the new film. James Gunn is not shy about denying a rumor or giving his opinion on a social network, and the filmmaker is clear that it is worth waiting and letting ourselves be surprised by what he has in store for us.
