The director of ‘Home Alone 2’ regrets Donald Trump’s cameo and says he wanted to remove it: “I would have been expelled from the country”
The current U.S. president appeared alongside Macaulay Culkin in Chris Columbus’s film, who revealed he was never proud of including him.
One of the most notable curiosities of ‘Home Alone 2’ is the seven-second scene where Donald Trump, then a real estate magnate, appears to give directions to Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin.
The producers rented the Plaza Hotel in New York, which Trump owned at the time, to shoot several scenes. Years later, Trump claimed his cameo contributed to the film’s success, despite Chris Columbus stating that Trump himself was eager to participate. Columbus has reiterated that he was never proud of the cameo.

In a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Chris Columbus joked about the consequences of removing Trump’s cameo: “If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States, so I’ll have to go back to Italy or something.” Columbus explained that securing the Plaza Hotel was crucial, and one of Trump’s conditions was to appear in the film.
