The Elder Scrolls VI is still “five plus years away”, will it come to PlayStation?

The head of Xbox previously said that The Elder Scrolls VI would be an Xbox ecosystem exclusive, but things could have changed since then.

The Elder Scrolls VI was announced during E3 2018 through a teaser trailer, at the same event that Starfield was officially revealed. Five years later, the next installment of the popular series is neither here nor expected, at least not for a fairly long period of time. On the occasion of the judicial dispute between Microsoft and the FTC, the head of Xbox —Phil Spencer— has made it clear that the title will take a long time to arrive.

Spencer pointed out that they have not decided if they will develop a version for PlayStation. He also stated that they have not yet specified the platforms on which it will be released. The project will still take more than 5 years, which suggests the possibility that it may not even arrive in time for the current console generation.

A very long journey

“It’s many years away, but it’s a game we have announced we would begin working on,” he said. “I think we’ve been a little unclear on what platforms it will launch on given how far out the game is. It’s difficult for us right now to nail down exactly what platforms that game will launch on.”

The head of Microsoft explained that the next installment of The Elder Scrolls would not arrive in the short or medium term: “As I said with Elder Scrolls 6, it’s so far out it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be at this point. It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about it being likely five-plus years away.”

These statements have caused some confusion since Spencer himself confirmed that the game would be sold only on Xbox consoles and PC.

According to Todd Howard, director of The Elder Scrolls VI, the video game is still in the pre-production phase. He recently added that it’ll probably be the last title in the series that he directs, mostly because of the long development times.
