The Iron Man game isn’t dead, but it’s development is just starting

EA Motive has revealed that they are now fully focused on the previously revealed Iron Man AAA game, but they’re taking their time to build a strong foundation.

It’s been a few days since the Tony Stark of the MCU died, but the character still lives in comics and video games. EA Motive, the creators of Star Wars Squadrons and the Dead Space Remake, are working on an Iron Man title, which will still take a while to come out, as Patrick Klaus, head of the studio, said in a statement published in the official website from the developer.

“our focus has switched to the Iron Man project, giving us the opportunity to work (and play!) with another extraordinary property. We’re still early in pre-production and taking our time to make sure we set the best possible foundation for development,” he explained.

According to Klaus, they are already experimenting with many options to play with the story and gameplay of Iron Man. “It’s exciting to see the fantasy start coming alive. Even this early in the process, we’ve put in place a Community Council made up of Iron Man and Marvel fans; as with Dead Space, they’ll be offering feedback on pretty much everything throughout the development process.”

What engine will EA’s Iron Man use?

Another piece of news is the technology that they will use for its development. Although Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space Remake used Frostbite, EA DICE’s own engine used by Battlefield and many other Electronic Arts games, for this project they have opted for the newest version of the Epic Games engine: “We’ve chosen Unreal Engine 5 as our game engine, in order to empower the dev team to work their magic and create something really special.”

Iron Man is not the only Marvel title in development by EA. The North American company is working on a single-player game based on black panther, developed by Cliffhanger Games.
