The Legend of Zelda live-action film wraps filming as Sony confirms post-production phase
The project is still on track for its previously announced May 2027 theatrical release.
The live-action ‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie is moving steadily closer to its theatrical debut. The upcoming production from Sony Pictures, developed in collaboration with Nintendo, has officially wrapped principal photography. The news was revealed during Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.
That said, the presentation did not include any new footage or additional details about the film. For now, there are still no new images, clips, or trailers to analyze. With filming now complete, the movie—starring Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link—officially moves into post-production.
It’s a secret to everybody
At this stage, the film remains largely shrouded in mystery. Beyond confirming its director, Wes Ball, its two lead actors, and the involvement of Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the franchise, alongside producer Avi Arad, very little has been disclosed.
What is known is that the movie was filmed in New Zealand, using several locations previously made famous by The Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson. Beyond that, key details—such as additional cast members and their characters, the story’s direction, or even whether Link will speak throughout the film—remain completely under wraps.
For now, the project is still targeting its previously announced release date, with the film set to arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027—just over a year away.
