The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will charge extra if you want to hear the game in Elvish

Daedalic has announced that Elvish spoken language in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will have an additional cost because they had to train the actors to speak Sindarin.

Update:
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will charge extra if you want to hear the game in Elvish

It’s not that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum isn’t exciting fans of Tolkien’s work, but far from showing player-friendly decisions, it seems that they are proposing the opposite. The latest controversy comes from the option of being able to enjoy dubbing into the Elvish language in the form of paid DLC, but that is also included in the special edition of the game, which obviously has a higher cost than the standard one. Daedalic has justified this decision in a somewhat strange way.

This edition, known as The Precious Edition, will include an art book, a lore compendium, a soundtrack, and other items, among which this DLC also stands out with the voices in Sindarin. This downloadable content can be purchased later for a fee, so controversy has been inevitable around this issue.

Daedalic’s Justification

“While traversing through Mirkwood and other parts of Middle-Earth Gollum will be able to listen to various dialogues between Elves,” Daedalic explained. “These dialogues add to the atmosphere and worldbuilding. With the Sindarin VO these dialogues will be held in Sindarin. Daedalic went the extra mile here and hired professional voice actors, who were trained in Sindarin by our lore experts. It is a DLC for the real Tolkien Devotees who want to immerse themselves even more into the world of Middle-Earth.”

In this way, both Daedalic and Nacon hope that fans will appreciate the extra effort that has been carried out for the development of a video game that has already been quite problematic in itself, having been plagued by delays. In fact, its launch was scheduled for September 2 of 2022, with the aim of arriving in time for the premiere of the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime Video.

At long last, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will arrive on May 25 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
