Don’t be confused if you hear about a Dragon Age next week that you haven’t heard of before, it’s the same game, it just changed its name.

The upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf changes name and announces date for first gameplay

One of the expected announcements during the Summer Game Fest is the fourth installment of the Dragon Age franchise. Although this game was announced a few years ago under the name Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, BioWare, the studio behind the franchise, has decided to make a name change.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is no more

Starting today, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be known as Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare announced in a post on its official blog. According to series executive producer Gary McKay, the name change is due to a shift in focus from the antagonist to the heroes we will be commanding in this upcoming installment.

“Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives”, writes McKay. “You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience.”

To capture what this game is all about, we changed the name as the original title didn’t show just how strongly we feel about our new heroes”, they conclude in the post.
