The showrunner of ‘The Boys’ explains why that character dies in the seventh episode of the final season
Episode 7 of the final season of ‘The Boys’ fulfills Eric Kripke’s warning: no one is safe.

Eric Kripke already warned us: no one is safe in the final season of ‘The Boys’. And that’s exactly what’s happening, as in the seventh episode we saw one of the original characters meet his end, making an honorable sacrifice. Kripke justified this death by saying, “we had to kill one of them.”
Warning: The following contains spoilers for the seventh episode of ‘The Boys’ Season 5

Why does THAT character die in the final episode of ‘The Boys’?
At the end of this episode, we see Frenchie make the ultimate sacrifice, revealing himself to Homelander so that Sister Sage—and especially Kimiko—can be saved. Furthermore, she currently seems to be the only one capable of stripping the villain of his powers and putting an end to him once and for all. Thus ends the life of one of the characters most beloved by fans, but not before taunting Homelander with the line, “I bet you never danced a day in your life.”
“We knew we had to kill off one of The Boys,” Kripke told The Hollywood Reporter. “You can’t have a shot at victory unless it costs your heroes something that’s really hard. I always think ‘The Lord of the Rings’ was so good at that, and ‘Game of Thrones’ was so good at that. For narrative momentum, your heroes have to pay a steep price — because that’s how it works in the real world.”

“So it was going through each character and deciding what was going to be the most heart wrenching,” Kripke continues. “I think we knew early on it was going to be Frenchie. In so many ways, Frenchie and Kimiko are the heart of the show. Despite what killers they are, they’re both so emotionally sweet. We knew this would have real maximum destruction, and I think it had to happen. They would not have a chance of winning if Frenchie doesn’t sacrifice himself.”
Meanwhile, criticism of the series’ final season continues. After enjoying a few thought-provoking episodes that delved deeper into certain characters, fans were hoping for a seventh episode where everything would start to build toward a frantic finale. Despite witnessing some major developments, fans are still wondering how it will be possible for everything to wrap up in a single final episode.
