Netflix has released a gripping new documentary titled Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, directed by Mark Monroe, which revisits the harrowing events of June 2023, when the Titan submersible imploded during a private expedition to the Titanic wreck site.

The 111-minute film dives deep into the timeline of the disaster, reconstructing the mission’s final moments and examining the lives of those aboard—particularly Paul-Henri Nargeolet, a renowned Titanic expert, and Stockton Rush, OceanGate’s CEO and the pilot of the Titan.

What happened to the Titan?

On June 18, 2023, the Titan lost contact with its support vessel 1 hour and 45 minutes into its descent. When it failed to resurface, a massive international search effort was launched.

Three days later, a remotely operated vehicle discovered debris from the submersible nearly 4,000 meters below sea level, confirming that the vessel had imploded, killing all five passengers instantly.

A deeper look at ambition and accountability

The documentary doesn’t just recount the tragedy, it also scrutinizes the engineering decisions, safety concerns, and corporate culture behind OceanGate. Through archival footage, interviews with former employees, and expert analysis, the film paints a sobering picture of how ambition and oversight collided in one of the most talked-about disasters of the decade.

Where to watch ‘Titan: The OceanGate Disaster’

The documentary is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
