Toho announces ‘Godzilla Minus 0.0,’ sequel to the Oscar-Winning ‘Godzilla Minus One’
Director Takashi Yamazaki returns for the next chapter of the legendary kaiju saga.
Godzilla has had a major presence in cinema in recent years, but it was with 'Godzilla Minus One' in 2023 that he demonstrated his great power. Today, Toho has revealed the title of the sequel to this film, with an enigmatic 'Godzilla -0.0′ (Godzilla Minus Zero).
The film’s title was announced during the annual Godzilla Fest in Tokyo and revealed to the world via Toho’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), with a brief teaser showing the logo.
Everything we know so far about ‘Godzilla Minus 0′
For now, details about the film are minimal, with no synopsis or release date. But one thing is clear: the same team that worked on the Oscar-winning film for best visual effects is back, led by Takashi Yamazaki, director, writer, and VFX supervisor of Minus One. Fans are speculating wildly about the story, considering that Godzilla Minus Zero took place before the original 1954 version of Godzilla. Now, with -0.0 being a number that doesn’t really exist... the situation is different.
Godzilla Minus One became a box office hit, grossing $50 million in Japan and becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history. In the United States, it grossed $56 million, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film. Its most impressive achievement was at the 96th Academy Awards, where it won the award for Best Visual Effects, becoming the first Godzilla film in its then 69-year history to be nominated for these awards.
Where can I watch ‘Godzilla Minus One’?
If you want to watch ‘Godzilla Minus One’ again, you can find it streaming on Netflix, or you can rent it on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.
