The illustrator behind the current manga saga will continue to lead ‘Dragon Ball Super’ and celebrates with a brilliant illustration honoring his mentor.

After a long wait, details have finally emerged about the latest volume of ’Dragon Ball Super, marking the 24th installment in the series. While recent updates have covered the saga’s immediate future following its hiatus due to the passing of Akira Toriyama over a year ago, it’s now clear that Toyotaro, the illustrator of ’Dragon Ball Super and the successor to his mentor, remains dedicated to both the manga and the ’Dragon Ball' brand.

“Toriyama’s World Forever!”

Toyotaro recently shared a stunning new illustration as a tribute to Toriyama, showcasing many of his iconic characters created over the last 40+ years, such as Goku, Arale, Beelzebub, Jaco, Paifu, Ackman, Senbei, Nekomajin, and more. Headlining the illustration are Toriyama’s two most famous creations, Goku and Arale, alongside the heartfelt message: “Toriyama’s World Forever!”

While Toriyama’s work is synonymous with the whimsical universe of Dr. Slump and the beloved characters of ’Dragon Ball’, he explored numerous other projects across his career, especially between the end of ’Dragon Ball’ in 1995 and the launch of ’Dragon Ball Super in 2015, where he contributed as a character designer, writer, and supervisor to Toyotaro.

Some of these ventures were tangentially related to ’Dragon Ball (’Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, ’Nekomajin’), while others delved into entirely different worlds (’Sand Land, ’Cowa’, ’Kajika’). Contemporary works of ’Dragon Ball’ like ’Lady Red’, ’Dub & Peter’, and ’Go! Go! Ackman’ also expanded his portfolio.

Now, many of Toriyama’s characters from these works appear in Toyotaro’s latest illustration, published as an extra in the 24th volume of ’Dragon Ball Super in Japan—with the title “Toriyama’s World Forever!!” Toyotaro also shared messages reaffirming his dedication to continuing ’Dragon Ball Super’, expressing enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity.

Toyotaro emphasizes his deep appreciation for Toriyama’s guidance and support, highlighting how much he learned from him over the years. He vows to preserve and honor Akira Toriyama’s unique style and legacy. This heartfelt homage reinforces the impact and influence of Toriyama, not just in the world of manga but also as a global cultural icon.
