vivo unveils the X200 series in Beijing and we have our first impressions of the vivo X200 Pro

The Chinese brand vivo held an event in Beijing, China on October 14 to present its new X200 series of smartphones. The event, held at the National Aquatic Center, was themed around the slogan “Beyond the image.”

3 new models

The company announced three new models: the X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro mini. Each one has a different configuration and features.

Advances in photography and videography

The X200 series is going to be known for its great telephoto photography, plus it’ll introduce a new 135mm focal length and Super Landscape Mode for Telephoto Portraits, as well as Telephoto Macro for more detail. It’ll also come with the Live Photo format, so it’ll work seamlessly with the iPhone Live Photo format. In video, this series offers slow motion recording in 4K resolutions at 120 FPS, 10-bit LOG video recording across the entire focal range that offers fuller color gradients for greater flexibility for color correction in post-production, even in difficult lighting conditions, and its 4K HDR cinematic portrait video is pretty impressive, too.

The vivo X200 Pro also has a custom V3+ imaging chip and a sensor developed with Sony. This combo brings together vivo’s enhanced sensor tech with Sony’s know-how for better energy efficiency, faster processing, and a smaller design. Plus, an AI-driven image quality enhancement algorithm makes images look even more realistic.

High performance

The X200 series is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset and backed by vivo’s custom imaging chips. The brand says this combo helps the series achieve record-breaking performance in AnTuTu benchmarks.

Design

It’s got a custom eye-care display and high-frequency PWM dimming tech for amazing visual comfort and a cool lens module. You can get the X200 and X200 Pro in blue and white, and the X200 Pro mini comes in pink and cyan.

First impressions vivo x200 Pro

Thanks to the brand, we got to see how the photos performed. They said we couldn’t see other functions because it was a prototype with the operating system focused on the Chinese market.

When we took close-up photos, we saw that the AI quickly identified a plant and adjusted the image to show it.

In normal lighting, we tested all zoom levels and got some pretty amazing results.

In low light, we got great results, but we noticed that the lens module might show reflections if there are indirect light sources.

Let’s hope we can find a way to fix this, as it came up in several of the tests we did.
